North Legion SMX
November 16th, 2006
The patented product called North Legion SMX, is a natural winter alternative for mountain bikers, BMX and motocross riders in the same way as the snowboard is a winter alternative for skateboarders and surfers. After just a few hours of training, freeriders and dirt jumpers can pull of the same sort of stunning tricks that they nail on their bikes.
“The SMX is a real cool thing”, says Norwegian freeride star Trond Hansen, who already tested the
prototypes. “It is pretty much like riding a motocross or mountain bike on snow, but way more stable. The whole secret behind it is the carving, which means you can land better. It is really a cool new sport and hopefully a lot of people will do it. Doing tricks with the SMX is actually quite similar to being on a bike. And racing the SMX is as much as fun as tricking it.”
Carving turns
The core of the fmx is the suspended parallel motion frame that allows you to do perfect carving turns, both in sitting and standing position. By using three carving skies with steel edges the smx achieves unique turning abilities in groomed slopes as well as in the back country. As an added bonus you can really go charging in the halfpipe.
Airs and tricks
With full suspension and the stability of the three ski design you san realy go hard on big jumps and in the halfpipe. Foot pegs attached to the parallel motion frame makes it possible to control the smx in the air and allows execution of tricks when standing. The emergency stop function is another new invention, and it has been designed facilitate execution of various fmx and bmx tricks. This skis also allows for fakie (backward) turns and landings.
Safe and easy transport in skilifts
A special lift transport device has been developed for use with button and t-bar lifts. The device is easy to attach and detach, and will automatically release if the rider looses control or falls off. In combination with the emergency stop function this solution gives perfect safety.
Stopping and safety
The 3-ski design gives enormous stability, and testing has revealed that the smx requires shorter distance to make a full stop compared with a snowboard at various speed. With smx, you stop the same way you do with alpine skis. If rider looses control going down the slope the emergency stop function will be activated and should prevent that the smx races away from you.

North Legion SMX is a joke, can’t believe some pro’s allied their names to this trike, what else will they try to sell next? This is a glorified GT racer with a wicked price tag, after all woudn’t it be the same if we slapped on two mini skis and bought a stick and placed a third ski on it. Give me a break how can something with such small skis be stable at high speeds-never- and who in the hell wants to sit on the floor like when we were 2 years old? Besides the point who really wants to swallow-by accident- yellow snow?
Even better let’s do some math, if we take my option you will need to by three sets of skis to equip a friend and yourself like one of these$1000 units all for say 500$ max including the-sorry for the pun- broom stick. I don’t care if Billy Boy Gates promoted this but it ain’t going to sell no matter how much BS they feed us. Come on boys make something real for once and not one of these tricycle devices. Last but not least look at the position of the riders when they turn-yuk- they look like the two plank wanks that prevented us from using our snowboards on the mountain So fpr now I hope all who buy will have a lollipop included with their purchase so they can really look like a bunch of moronic Trikers. O well I guess the cool snowboard-USA baby- look is hard to replicate, the acro skiers are in the right direction though. Next will be the lying carpet where you will be able to dodge trees!! Watch coming right up in next years fire sale………………to be continued.
O hold on, I wish those dumb trolls would keep stupid ideas at the end of their pond.

Probally you right anyway we will see on 9 December 2006, in the course of the official opening of the new Snow Funpark Wittenburg in Northern Germany, adidas will stage the world’s first SMX contest. I’m gona try to put some video of this event to page so we can see how this device work in practice.

Well I instructed people on snowboards for three years and have my level, I have also been riding boards since 88 and been a skier since 82. I can tell you that there is no chance in hell this thing can perform at any level close to a ski or SB at high speed which includes turning fast or the king carve. You can see in the pictures that the front ski is basically useless when it comes to turns and those nothing to initiate the turn. So once again why add a third as a steering device when it is of no real function, I guess this is for the people who like to have front stability, perhaps this is a thing for couch potatoes? Like I said, buy yourself two mini skis and you’ll will probably be better off. Thinsk about it for a sec…….
Tell me, wouldnot it be far more interesting if someone came up with somehting more than a glorified GT racer that you can buy for say $50 used on EBay or new for slightly higher
I am willing to bet my undies- cleaned that is- that this will fail.

Stupid is who stupid does…… I feel the same type of ignorance here which was shown by ski manufacurers in the eighties when allowing a clever person Named Jake Burton Carpenter to fiddle around and make a stupid usless kids toy called snowboard. Somewhat amusing that the ignorance shown by the conservative besserwissers at ski resorts and ski companies now have been passed on to snowboarders! Kind of sad when you think about it…..

You don’t get the point snowboarding is the equivalent in every way to its counterpart surfing, the feel, rush etc……..What new feeling could the SMX possibly give us? This is where it will fail. IMO. This has nothing to do with the boneheads of the 80’s who prohibited the SB but rather the consumer who is always looking for something faster, nimbler, cooler….. The SMX is neither, it’s to small for anyone bigger than a troll, due to its small skis it is slower ,unstable at high speeds…and I can go on..
It relates back to the fact that this is nothing novel, the snowboard was and that is a fact. We can spin it many different ways but the SMX is jus a glorified tricycle on snow.
So don’t go on thinking that every else that comes out after the SB will go big, please… the SB is unique, just like surfing, skiing etcccccccc.
